World ASL (American Sign Language) Series of Poker is a tour to bring renowned poker games to all deaf, hard of hearing, interpreters, and family members of deaf or hard of hearing adult poker players of all languages in different regions of America. We will be hosting poker tournaments at different casinos. The tour is officially named World ASL Series of Poker (WASP).
We recognize there is a gap between the desires and needs of these poker players and the lack of established poker games in different regions of America. This tour will bring the poker gaming experience closer, thus creating diversity and interesting challenges for you!
Lana Coker-Pawlak lives in San Antonio, Texas and is renowned from the World ASL Series of Poker (WASP). She also acts as WASP’s Event Director. She has been playing since 2006, and has been a Tournament Director since 2015.
WASP hosts up to a dozen events per year (with deaf dealers, too!), and are inclusive to hearing players. The tour travels to many cities, including Texas, California, Florida, Ohio, Massachusetts, and Arizona. Host cities have generously donated funds to support tour, enabling WASP to provide a wonderful camaraderie and commodity for deaf players. WASP events are a place the deaf can compete in poker, and come together as community of their own, where they feel welcomed as a family. This year, WASP hopes to extend the tour throughout the United States.
In addition to running WASP, Lana is also an officer for poker leagues the San Antonio Deaf Poker League, and Austin Series of Poker, Texas. She attends and volunteers at deaf sporting events, and a variety of other deaf community outreach, including Christmas Baskets for deaf families.
Lana enjoys spending time with her family and close friends, being an event planner, traveling, and playing poker at the Deaf Poker Tour in Las Vegas and Baltimore every year. She also is a very sociable person with a gift for helping deaf players understand the process of the game.
